Biointeractomics

 

The research work of the group is mainly aimed at analysing the structure and function of biological macromolecules, as well as studying transient protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions – which are crucial for a broad range of cell processes.  In the lab we also focus on gaining a deeper insight into the post-translational modifications of proteins, and in particular, of mitochondrial cytochrome c (Cc) – a protein which plays a double role in redox metabolism and programmed cell death (PCD), upon chemical modification by nitration and phosphorylation. In addition, we attempt to provide further understanding of the evolution of cell death by performing proteomic analysis aimed at identifying novel targets of Cc in humans, plants and green algae.

Our research work is clear-cut multi- and interdisciplinary in nature. In collaboration with other laboratories worldwide, we usually apply a broad diversity of methodologies and techniques ranging from molecular and cell biology to biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology and computational chemistry.
