The X-ray Diffraction Laboratory Service

Facility description

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction is one of the most powerful techniques for determination of crystalline compound structures. This technique provides information about the 3D structure of a molecule, including bond lengths and angles, as well as the absolute configuration of stereogenic centers.

The X-ray Diffraction Laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Research offers services to both internal and external users for the structural determination of organic and organometallic compounds.

Equipment

The X-ray Diffraction Laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Research is equipped with a Bruker D8 Quest diffractometer featuring a molybdenum micro-source, a Photon II detector, an automated goniometer, and a system for measuring crystals at low temperatures (down to 100K).

Operating standards

Access to the service is provided in two modes:

  • Submission of samples for analysis by the Technical Manager.
  • Use of the equipment in self-service mode.

Samples for analysis must be delivered to the Technical Manager properly labeled and accompanied by the request form.

Measurement results will be sent to the research group leader via email.

Analyzed samples will be kept in the Laboratory for a maximum of one month. After this period, they will be destroyed.

Self-service access to the equipment is restricted to permanent staff affiliated with the Institute of Chemical Research. The Laboratory’s Technical Manager will provide the necessary training on equipment use before the user can perform measurements independently.
