Chemical Library and Synthesis Scale-Up Service

The Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ) is one of the three nodes of the CSIC Chemical Library, with the Chemical Library and Synthesis Scale-Up Service being responsible for managing the collection of compounds deposited at this center.

The Service is equipped with a range of instruments that, in addition to their routine use within the Compound Library, can also be employed for research activities.

The Chemical Library and Synthesis Scale-Up Service is equipped with the following scientific instrumentation:

Self-service equipment available through time reservation:

• H-Cube Mini Plus (ThalesNano): Hydrogenation of compounds in continuous flow with in situ H₂ generation.
• Biotage Initiator+: Microwave synthesis reactor.
• Biotage Selekt: Low- and medium-pressure chromatography for the purification of organic molecules.
• Chemglass jacketed reactor system with capacities ranging from 100 mL to 5 L.

Equipment operated by the Service’s technical staff:

• Opentrons OT-2: Robotic pipetting platform for automated preparation of sampling plates, sample dilution, etc.
• HPLC/UHPLC Waters ACQUITY Arc

The equipment consists of:

  – Automatic injector with a temperature-controlled sample carousel.

  – Quaternary pump.

  – Oven with temperature control and column selector.

  – Waters columns:

          – XSelect HSS T3 C18 2,5 µm (2,1 x 100 mm)

          – XBridge BEH C18 2,5 µm (2,1 x 100 mm)

          – XSelect CSH Phenyl-Hexyl C6 2,5 µm (2,1 x 100 mm)

  – W2998 PDA (photodiode array) detector. Acquisition range: 190–800 nm.

  – W2424 ELS (evaporative light scattering) detector.

 – Waters SQ Detector 2 mass spectrometry detector, with ESI, APCI and ESCi ionization sources, and a mass range from 50 to 3000 Da.

 

Self-service equipment (internal users)

• The analysis will be carried out by the user, following prior training provided by the Service’s technical staff.
• Before using any equipment, users must book it in advance through the IIQ internal application “Other equipment”. Equipment use without prior reservation is strictly prohibited.
• Users are not allowed to modify critical instrument parameters without authorization.
• Any anomaly or incident must be reported to the technical staff.
• Once the analysis is completed, samples, reagents, or solvents must NOT be left on the equipment.
• The workspace must be left clean and orderly.

Equipment operated by the Service’s technical staff

• The Waters ACQUITY Arc HPLC/UHPLC system may only be operated by the Service’s technical staff and by the technical staff of the Chromatography Service.
• The Opentrons OT-2 pipetting robot may only be operated by the Service’s technical staff.
