Biography

Abel Ros Laó was born in El Coronil (Seville) in 1978. After obtaining a degree in Chemical Sciences from the University of Seville (2001), he joined the Institute of Chemical Research to carry out his doctoral thesis within the framework of a project funded by Bayer CropScience on the synthesis of a new family of herbicides based on enantiopure triazines and oxazolines. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Seville in 2006 under the supervision of José María Lassaletta and Rosario Fernández. Upon completion of his doctoral thesis, he was hired as a postdoctoral researcher by Bayer CropScience for one year. In March 2008, he joined the group of Prof. Varinder Aggarwal at the University of Bristol as a Marie Curie IEF postdoctoral fellow. During this period, he worked on the synthesis of chiral potassium alkyl trifluoroborates and their application in new cross-coupling reactions, as well as on sulfur ylide chemistry and its application to the total synthesis of quinine. In April 2010, he joined the Institute of Chemical Research as a postdoctoral researcher attached to a Project of Excellence of the Andalusian Regional Government, benefiting from a “European Reintegration Grant” for the period 2010–2013. During the period 2025–2020, he was a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the University of Seville, and since August 2020 he has been a Tenured Scientist at the CSIC.
