Biography
Pablo obtained his BSc in Chemistry in 2013 at the University of Seville, after which he obtained funding (Talentia Scholarship) to carry out Master by Research studies at the University of Bristol (UK) with Professor Anthony P. Davis, focusing on the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds and their evaluation as synthetic lectins. Following his MRes studies, he returned to Seville and did his PhD studies on organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis under the guidance of Dr. Salvador Conejero and Dr. Amor Rodríguez at the Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas (IIQ). During his doctoral stage, he worked on the chemistry of Ni(II) complexes stabilized by pincer-type diphosphinoboryl (PBP) ligands, and the reactivity of NHC-supported cationic, coordinatively unsaturated Pt(II) complexes towards silanes. During his PhD studies, he performed research stays in the labs of Prof. Agustí Lledós (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, 1 month) and Christopher C. Cummins (MIT, USA, 4 months). After obtaining his PhD in 2019, he spent 2 years in the labs of Prof. T. Don Tilley at UC Berkeley (USA), working on bi- and multimetallic Cu and Fe complexes thanks to a Marie Curie fellowship, which allowed him to return to Seville, where he currently holds an Associate Professor Position (Jan 2023-) in the Inorganic Chemistry Department (University of Seville). He recently started his independent research career at IIQ within the DOGMA group, where he currently focuses on the reactivity of group 11-based bi- and multimetallic acetylide complexes.
Research interests
Synthesis and characterization of group-11 based acetylide and silyl species and their reactivity against small molecules. Experimental and computational mechanistic studies and potential catalytic applications.
